This image from the 11th of April 2010 shows a jaw-dropping 52.82 ct diamond at the Sotheby’s. The type IIa diamond of D colour and flawless clarity is expected to fetch a diamond price of more than US$ 7 million, in the upcoming Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale to be held in Geneva, Switzerland. The auction is scheduled to happen in a month from now, and we’ll soon know how this exceedingly rare diamond performs. Sotheby’s has a long record of auctioning diamonds of exceptional size and beauty. in May 2009, Sotheby’s set a world record on price per carat on the sale of “Star of Josephine”, a 7.03 ct vivid blue diamond $9.48 million. This auction too happened in Geneva. It is to be seen if this year will be second in a row of records at the Sotheby’s.
