Topaz is a fluorine aluminium silicate that occurs in many colors, ranging from colorless to shades of orange and yellow, green, pink and blue.
Some trace the origin of the name “Topaz” to the Greek word “Topazios” which means “green gemstone”, while others believe it comes from the Sanskrit term “Tapasya” – the heat of spiritual austerity – an apt name especially for the fiery orange imperial topaz.
While Topaz is stunning in every hue, blue topaz has been very popular in the past century for its fresh, youthful beauty.
In colour, blue topaz usually is Sky blue, Swiss blue (deep blue) or London blue (the deepest blue). In general, its vibrant aqua tone gives it a summery appeal, and makes for fantastic fashion jewellery.
Topaz is the talisman gemstone of the Sagittarius. December-borns, your birthday might fall in winter, but with the blue skies and beach holidays of summer captured your beautiful birthstone, you are never out in the cold.
Enjoy!
