Mandira Bansal has the trick to battling different time zones down pat. The London-based designer runs a design unit called Mandira Bansal Studio in Chennai, which has her working from the minute she wakes up. “We design women’s and menswear and you will find me discussing designs, production etc. with my team in India from the second the alarm sounds,” she exclaims. A typical workday involves a whole lot of researching, sketching and Skype calling the unit to oversee their work for this designer. She prefers to end her busy yet fun days by hitting the gym followed by dinner with friends or close ones. Forever dressing others, how would she describe her personal style? “’Chic’ defines my style quotient. I like understated and elegant silhouettes but also like to subtly explore the queer,” she tells us. Bansal is quick to choose a swanky dinner at an elegant restaurant followed by the theater as her idea of a glamorous after hours soiree. No wonder then that CaratLane’s After 8 collection fits her personality like a glove, or should we say well-crafted ring! “The collection is glamorous yet restrained and is perfectly in tune with my aesthetic sense,” she states.
