How to ace the ‘less is more’ look this festive season. Indian festivities are all about glitz, glamour and sparkle, if you ask us. We deck ourselves from top to bottom in our finest baubles, go all out with heavy embroidery and even go a tad bit OTT with our make-up. This time around however, we’re thinking of switching it up a bit. Instead of taking the usual lets-go-all-out route, we’re opting for a more minimalistic one. This festive season, we suggest you channel your inner fashion sophisticate and abide by Coco Chanel’s, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off,” maxim. 1. The most important thing to remember while going for the subtle glam look is to let your clothes complement your jewellery. For instance, when wearing a heavy embellished blouse, a gorgeous standout choker neckpiece seems wasteful. Instead, opt for a drop earrings and maybe a complementing ring. 2. The same rule applies when donning a sleeveless or short-sleeved choli or anarkali. This is the perfect opportunity to wear stacked bangles. An armful of glittering gold or fiery bangles will only add to your bear hands. 3. When your outfit is already heavy, keep the spotlight on one extraordinary piece of jewellery to nailing effortless chic. Be it ornate jhumkas, an exquisite pearl strand or even a standout cocktail rings, let one piece of jewellery do the talking. Nothing is worse than cluttering your otherwise fabulous look with several little distractive pieces. 4. Don’t over-layer. While layered necklace in different sizes as well as stacked rings and clunks of bracelets look oh-so-stunning, remember to not overdo it. Leave some bare skin to avoid looking like a multi-coloured Christmas tree! 5. Go easy on the colours as well. For instance, if your outfit is splashed with a kaleidoscope of colours, then opt for simple diamond or gold jewellery instead of adding gemstone pieces to the mix. 6. For the times when you opt for a simple outfit, choose a statement bauble, like earrings, so that your cherished jewellery can revel in the spotlight.
